Inside cybersecurity operations

During this Tech & Meet session, Raf Coulier and Pieter Verheye from Easi gave us an inside look into the daily workflow of Blue Team and Purple Team engineers. The seminar focused on how cybersecurity operations are organized in professional environments and how teams collaborate to detect, analyze, and respond to security incidents.

What made this session especially interesting was the practical perspective. Instead of only discussing theory, the speakers explained how their weekly planning is structured, how tasks are prioritized, and how different security responsibilities are divided across the team. This gave me a much clearer understanding of how security operations work in real-world companies.

Blue Team and Purple Team collaboration

The seminar also highlighted the difference between Blue Team and Purple Team activities. Blue Teams mainly focus on defending systems, monitoring infrastructure, and responding to threats, while Purple Teams combine both defensive and offensive approaches to improve overall security strategies.

Seeing how these teams collaborate was very valuable because cybersecurity is often seen as purely technical, while in reality communication, planning, and teamwork are equally important. The session showed how structured collaboration helps organizations improve their security posture more effectively.

Tools and practical workflows

Another interesting part of the seminar was the explanation of the tools and workflows used during daily operations. The speakers demonstrated how monitoring systems, alerts, and security processes are integrated into the workflow of security engineers. This gave me a better understanding of how professional SOC environments operate and how analysts manage incidents efficiently.

Besides the technical side, the speakers also shared insights about working in cybersecurity teams, handling responsibilities under pressure, and continuously adapting to new threats and technologies. Hearing these real experiences made the seminar much more engaging and realistic.

What I learned

Overall, this Tech & Meet session was a very informative experience. It helped me better understand the operational side of cybersecurity and showed how important teamwork and communication are within security environments. Events like these motivate me to continue developing my skills in cybersecurity and software engineering while learning more about how the industry works in practice.
